SAF: Smallholder Agroforestry Finanace

Rabobank: SAF Project
Smallholder Agroforestry Finance: SAF provides financial support to smallholder farmers to enable them to transition to agroforestry.
Agroforestry is a land management approach that combines trees and shrubs with crop and livestock farming systems. This helps farmers to adapt to and mitigate against climate change, improve their livelihoods, improve food security, increase biodiversity and restore lands. We worked with SAF to create a brand identity that would work for their complex and extensive target audience, which includes investors looking to purchase carbon credits to local partners and smallholder farmers in developing countries.

BRIEF
Create a brand to engage SAF's diverse and complex audience, and accelerate access to agroforestry.
Acorn is Rabobank’s initiative to help smallholder farmers in the Global South in their transition to agroforestry. This helps farmers locally to adapt to climate change, improve their livelihoods, regionally improve food security, increase biodiversity and restore lands and globally mitigate climate change. In order to scale Acorn’s agroforestry projects access to finance is crucial. That's where SAF comes in: to provide financial support directly to smallholder farmers to enable this transition to agroforestry.
An important barrier in the context of branding was the complex and extensive target group. The brand needed to inform not only investors, but also local partners and indirectly smallholder farmers in developing countries. These stakeholders vary on several characteristics and need different levels of information so that everything is understandable for everyone.
CREATIVE APPROACH
Dappled light shining through the trees forms the core concept of our visual identity. We use this to form graphic patterns and key visual elements, including our logo.
